The Problem
Trafficking of children and adults is a global criminal business, which targets and victimises the most vulnerable people for transportation, abuse and exploitation across the world. It is a largely hidden problem and is often described as a form of modern-day slavery. The children and adults involved are in no way responsible for their predicament, having been coerced, bribed or forced into, and unable to escape from, the control of traffickers. The effect of trafficking on children and adults is wide-reaching; many will experience significant harm as a result of their situation, and outcomes for them may be extremely poor as a result of lack of proper care, protection or access to universal services.
The many purposes for which people are exploited – including commercial sexual exploitation, labour exploitation, criminal exploitation (for example benefit fraud and forced drugs cultivation), domestic servitude, sham marriages and organ trafficking – are continually evolving. Survivor’s Destiny is committed to contributing to tackling these issues and supporting victims of trafficking and exploitation.
